The Challenge
Compass Pharma Services LLC (Compass) provides outsourced contract packaging, manufacturing, and distribution services to the world’s best-known pharmaceutical companies. The company, acquired in January 2007 from a large, publicly owned corporation, had to leave many of its business systems behind with the parent company. With plans to double in size over the next few years, Compass has to replace those lost systems quickly – while keeping operations going. The company’s success depends on its ability to quickly respond to short-run, just-in-time orders, while providing visibility to major customers who require a range of information across the different functional areas. Unfortunately, the current systems Compass uses don’t allow its functional departments to interact with each other and share information – information that is essential to its custom-ers. The company needs a single, integrated solution that can streamline opera-tions internally while easily integrating into its customers’ business software (typically SAP® solutions). Compass needs to implement the solution quickly and with a minimal up-front investment in IT infrastructure and resources.

To gear up for growth, Compass selected the SAP® Business ByDesign™ solution. The on-demand solution can be implemented quickly, rolled out with minimal employee training, and supported by a small IT staff. Moreover, it will allow Compass to manage processes that the company’s large customers have outsourced to Compass, while maintaining critical links into those customers’ systems. Compass will also be able to streamline and automate processes across the company and centralize operational data. And as new lines of business are developed, Compass can adapt SAP Business ByDesign to support these changes with minimal cost and disruption to the business.
